- Dental Crowns - Crowns are a type of dental restoration which, when cemented into place, fully cup over the portion of a tooth which lies at and above the gum line. Crowns encase the entire visible aspect of a tooth. A dental crown in effect becomes the tooth’s new outer surface.
- Crown & Bridgework - A Bridge is a custom device anchored to neighboring teeth that replaces one or more missing teeth. When a lost tooth is replaced with bridgework, the teeth on either side of the missing one are prepared as crowns to serve as abutments to hold the prosthetic (replacement) tooth in place. Crowns and bridges are most commonly prepared from high quality materials such as semiprecious or precious metals, porcelain, or a fused combination of the two. Aesthetics, function and tissue compatibility are considered when selecting the material most suitable for you.
- Esthetic Fillings -Composites if placed with exacting technique (rubber dam isolation and modern bonding agents) get as close as we have ever been able to the tooth to its original strength in the most conservative fashion. The composites are a very hard “plastic” that bonds (micromechanically fuses) to the tooth to hold the tooth together. Amalgams have multiple disadvantages. Amalgam is a metal which expands and contracts with hot, cold and biting. Therefore, with every meal the teeth are being weakened. Over time, depending on the size of the fillings, the teeth become susceptible to fracturing. Amalgam also contains mercury which is a very toxic element. The literature is very unclear as to the amount of mercury that is released from amalgams and the long term effects on the entire body.
- Air Abrasion and Micro-dentistry - Air Abrasion is a technology that uses a fine powder called aluminum oxide under air pressure to blast out small cavities in teeth without the need for anesthetic or needles. There is a trend in the dental profession towards conservative treatment options for decay removal in teeth. In the past, dentists used needles and drills to remove decay and often this involved removal of “healthy” tooth structure also. Now, through the use of air abrasion, we remove small cavities in teeth without removing the solid, healthy tooth enamel – and then we place white fillings, often without using the dreaded needle.
- Cosmetic Dentures - Dentures Do Not Need To Look Fake. In the office of Dr. Wayne Sutton, custom cosmetic denture patients are proudly displayed in photos on the walls and you would never know it!
